The Echo line of devices has got a major revamp, making the largely cylindrical design move towards a spherical one

Amazon has kept its annual date of launching new gizmos and it did in plenty, though only a handful would be available in India. Two of the most interesting developments involve a cloud-based gaming service subscription called Luna and the other is a home camera drone while the vertical Echo smart speakers will now sport a spherical shape and its innards have been given a digital boost.

“Our homes have become our offices, our classrooms, movie theatres and more. We believe that our homes are made better by technology—technology that you don’t have to learn and works well for everybody, whenever and wherever you are,” said David Limp, Amazon’s head of devices and services, during a virtual event.

Fairmont leaders hear RHCC to build health-care facility in town

FAIRMONT — Commissioners here were told Tuesday that a new health-care facility is on its way to town.

Robeson Health Care Corporation CEO Tim Hall said a new medical center, which will be about 14,000 square feet in size, will be built at the site of the South Robeson Medical Center on South Walnut Street. The medical center and property are owned by the corporation.

Construction of the new facility will begin in the next 60 days, he said. The project will cost about $3.5 million.

“This is one that we’re very very proud of,” Hall said of the project.

Powell to cast recovery as improving, yet highly uncertain, in testimony before lawmakers

Still, with about half of the 22 million payroll jobs lost in March and April still off the books, Powell’s statement suggests the rise in joblessness has been especially severe for low-wage workers, women and people of color.

“A full recovery is likely to come only when people are confident that it is safe to reengage in a broad range of activities,” according to Powell’s written statement. “The path forward will depend on keeping the virus under control, and on policy actions taken at all levels of government.”

Powell is scheduled to testify at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday alongside Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Both will also appear on Thursday before the Senate Banking Committee to give updates on the Cares Act, the federal coronavirus aid bill passed in March.

He billed himself as a “Fixer” when he was hired. Mike Zimmer came with that reputation, a football coach skilled at fixing problem areas, especially on defense.

The Fixer has tackled big projects at different times in his seven seasons in Minnesota, some of his own doing, some not. Teddy Bridgewater’s knee injury, a revolving door at quarterback, offensive coordinators coming and going. He’s managed to keep the Vikings relevant as a playoff contender through turbulence.

Oshkosh, Omro schools to hold referendum informational sessions

When voters from Oshkosh and Omro school districts cast their Nov. 3 ballots, they’ll also decide whether to let officials increase property taxes beyond their levy limits.

To educate voters, both districts are holding informational sessions to address any concerns about the referendum questions on the ballot.

Oshkosh is holding sessions at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Carl Traeger Elementary School and Thursday at Webster Stanley Middle School and a virtual session on Oct. 6 via Zoom. Omro’s session will be 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at Omro High School Performing Arts Center.

Attendees in both Omro and Oshkosh will be required to social distance and wear masks.

Burial plot included in Malton council home sale

A council in North Yorkshire is selling a property adjoining a graveyard – with a burial plot included.

The three-bedroom detached home next to New Malton Cemetery in Malton is being sold by the town’s council to help fund graveyard improvement work.

Its “unusual” offering is an optional extra “should the owner wish to have this included”, according to the estate agents dealing with the sale.

The property, called Malton Lodge, has a guide price of £250,000.

The “characterful” home has “plenty of scope to update”, according to the sellers, with room to extend the property onto land at the rear.

Vikings Fall After Blowout Home Loss

Things could’ve gone better for the Vikings in Week 1.
