iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 review: iPhone revolution, iPad evolution

Apple spells out the significance of its new iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 updates right in the release notes. iOS 14 “updates the core experience of iPhone” thanks to redesigned widgets that can be placed anywhere on your home screen and a new App Library feature for managing app overload and organization. iPadOS 14 is a bit less grand in scope, with Apple saying that it “introduces new Apple Pencil features and redesigned apps that take advantage of iPad’s large multi-touch display.” One marks the biggest shift for the iPhone in years, and the other continues to augment the creativity and productivity power of Apple’s tablets.

For both platforms, the new software includes a long list of improvements to Messages, Maps, the Music app, Siri, and more. And Apple continues its quest to put privacy at the center of everything, with new protections for your personal data and indicators that

A QR code takes students to vote.org to confirm their voter registration.

It’s quick and easy, Collier said, taking just a few minutes in most cases. For students who may not be comfortable with registering online, the voter drive sponsored by the Huskers Vote Coalition and ASUN also had paper registrations for students to register to vote from their campus address.

Nest Multi-Room Audio Controls Just Leveled Up Big Time

Nest today has introduced some improvements to its multi-room audio controls that really make it all worth while for users.

The control interface itself will be rolling out to smart displays like the Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, and JBL Link View starting today. The major improvement though is how this new control interface works with Cast-enabled Nest devices in multiple rooms.

Overall it’ll make streaming music to more than one room a lot simpler. And that added convenience will do more than just make the user’s life easier. It should also open up the capabilities of what devices you can cast to.

UPDATED; Talladega City BOE approves budget, capital improvement ‘wish list’ | The Daily Home

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect the fact board member Sandra Beavers questioned a series of checks written to one constractor. A previous version said the checks had been written to multiple contractors, but that was incorrect.

TALLADEGA — The Talladega City Board of Education voted 4-0 to approve a budget that included a slight deficit and 3-1 to approve a five-year capital improvement project during a meeting Tuesday evening.

Board Chair Mary McGhee was not present for the meeting, and board member Sandra Beavers cast the dissenting vote against the capital improvement budget. Beavers did not explain or defend her “no” vote.

Board member Chuck Roberts acted as board chair in McGhee’s absence. The meeting took place on the Zoom platform; Beavers could not be seen at all by the other participants and was late in casting her vote on most occasions.

The capital improvement plan

City-County councilor wants to see safety improvements for pedestrians on far east side roads

INDIANAPOLIS — An 11-year-old boy was struck and killed riding his bike this past weekend on the far east side, and now City-County Council members are speaking out.

They want to see more done to improve the safety on east side roads.

“For the family, my deepest condolences. I send a prayer up,” says District 14 City-County Councilor La Keisha Jackson. “We can’t bring your child back, but we can put law into place to move forward to help other kids, so this doesn’t continue to happen.”

The incident occurred along north Post Road near Jamestown Apartments. Lawrence Police say the boy was riding his bike with his 15-year-old brother. The pair was on one bike while crossing the road when they were struck.

The nearest cross walk at that spot is three to four blocks away in each direction. The road actually splits two City-County Council districts. Jackson wants

Slow improvement on wildfire front; air quality alert extended to Thursday

A week after wildfires began consuming thousands of acres in western Oregon, firefighters are making progress on some of the most destructive blazes in state history. State officials said Monday that 10 people have died, though that number was higher than the totals released by county officials, and 22 are still missing. Countless homes and businesses have been scorched.

Much of the state remains under an air quality alert that has been extended until noon on Thursday, as winds forecasters were expecting didn’t materialize.

Rebecca Muessle with the National Weather Service’s Portland office said that the thick smoke blanketing the west coast has made winds harder to predict, since they’ve stopped the warming afternoon temperatures that can create windy conditions.

“We do have a system moving in this afternoon into tomorrow,” Muessle said. “We could see some slight improvements, but realistically we’re not expecting enough that would really improve air
