DIY Boom Continues to Drive Demand for Home Improvement Stores

Home improvement stores are on track to permanently land in the essential services or daily needs category, which retail investors have focused on for years. This year, home improvement activity has increased dramatically, and 40% of consumers have indicated that they plan to continue home improvement projects beyond the recession, according to research from the NPD Group. The activity has driven home improvement store sales up 11% this year.

During the pandemic, home improvement stores have become the second fastest growing retail segment in both brick-and-mortar and online sales. In lawn and garden, tools, paint, kitchen and bath and hardware segments, each saw a double-digit increase in both online and in-store purchases. The average shopping trip also increased 10% compared to the average trip in 2019.

Revealed: Coventry’s British Home Stores building set to get a new tenant

Coventry’s former British Home Stores building is set to taken over by a new tenant it has been revealed.

The large British Home Stores (BHS) building on the corner of the Upper Precinct and Smithford Way has been empty since it closed in the summer of 2016.

There has been ongoing speculation over the former department store being taken over by a new tenant – or tenants – but so far nothing concrete had emerged.

Now Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for jobs and regeneration has revealed that contracts have been exchanged and an announcement on the building’s future is not far off.

Councillor Jim O’Boyle revealed the move during a walkabout tour of Coventry city centre with CoventryLive to showcase the many improvement works that are taking place to transform the city centre.

Harbor Freight boasts more than 1,050 stores in almost every state, and they are currently considering hundreds of new locations across the U.S., according to their website. It’s boom time for discount stores in the land of luxury

In a country known for its love of the lavish and luxurious, discount stores are making a surprising impact on the UAE’s retail sector, with a spike in consumer spending during the past few months.

As the region has been rocked by salary cuts and job losses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, insights from credit card company Visa reveal that, in non-food categories, discount stores, home improvement stores and pharmacies are the three categories with the largest growth in sales since lockdown measures were introduced.

At the same time, higher ticket value categories, such as apparel, accessories, electronics and department stores, saw double-digit drops in spending, according to Visa’s data.

Lowe’s Canada Recruits For Around 625 Jobs In RONA And Reno-Depot Stores In Quebec

(RTTNews) – Lowe’s Canada, affiliated to home improvement retailer Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (LOW), announced Wednesday that it is currently recruiting for positions in its RONA and Reno-Depot corporate stores in Quebec.

The company plans to fill more than 625 full-time and part-time regular positions in these stores.

Further, about 30 positions are available at the Boucherville distribution centre.

San Marcos police looking for duo after hardware store theft – News – Austin American-Statesman

Police are looking for a man and a woman who stole a large amount of electrical wiring from a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in San Marcos on Sept. 13.

The pair left in a gray four-door car, San Marcos police said in a Monday Facebook post. Police also provided photos of the man they believe was responsible for the theft in their social media post.

Authorities said the man, who is wearing a blue shirt, light blue pants and white athletic shoes in police photos, had an ankle monitor on his left leg. The device is commonly used by law enforcement probation and parole departments.

San Marcos police said they are waiting for responses from multiple probation and parole departments for possible identification of the man in the photos.

Discount chain B&M has said it will open up to 45 new stores this year after sales soared during the coronavirus lockdown.

It said its business model was “well-attuned” to customer needs, with discount goods being sold at out-of-town stores.

Retailers have had mixed fortunes during the coronavirus pandemic.

In August, retail sales were boosted by increased spending on DIY, but clothing sales still lagged.

Supermarkets and DIY stores are among the retailers that have seen high demand during the pandemic as people stocked up on food and home improvement goods during and after lockdown.

Last week, Tesco and Morrisons again put limits on the number of some items that shoppers could buy to try to prevent a repeat of panic-buying which led to shortages in March.

People on social media as well as tech site The Verge said they were able to purchase the still unannounced streaming device at the home improvement retailer. The receipt listed the new Chromecast as “Sabrina-Abbey Rock Candy,” the hardware’s codename, according to The Verge.
