Inmates cook up a storm in Changi catering kitchen as part of training, rehab programme, Courts & Crime News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – When father-of-two Faruk was sentenced to seven years and 10 months’ jail in 2017 for drug-related offences, he did not expect to find a passion for decorating cakes or learning how to fold pastries while behind bars.

The 38-year-old, who declined to give his full name, spends six days a week in a kitchen as part of his work programme during his incarceration in the Changi Prison Complex.

While his family has yet to try his creations, the former mechanic hopes to make his sons, aged 12 and 13, their favourite strawberry cheesecake, when he is released.

“My family was surprised that I could bake cakes. I could see from their faces that they are happy I’m learning because I have never done this kind of thing before,” said Faruk in a phone interview on Wednesday (Oct 7). “(In the kitchen,) I learnt how to be patient, relax,

Kitchen Design Ideas That Are Chic And Functional – Kitchen Decor Ideas

Photographed by Ashley Batz.

There are plenty of design trends that are gorgeous, modern, and memorable — but do they actually meet your everyday needs? In our opinion, if you’re going to renovate and redecorate, the finished result should suit you aesthetically and practically, especially when you’re talking about the heart of the home. That’s why we think the best kitchen design ideas prioritize functionality above all else.

Keep in mind: That doesn’t mean you have to put style on the back burner (no pun intended). It just means that whatever you decide to do, you should do it with consideration to your lifestyle. Do you have a big family that always ends up gathering in the kitchen? Do you like to spread out your tools and ingredients and cook in a wide-open space? Are you generally pretty clean and organized, or could you use some help in that department?

Mistakes to avoid when upgrading a kitchen: Don’t get sucked into tempting, one-function items

Your household may have grown during the coronavirus pandemic as adult children who lost their jobs returned home. At the same time, your wallet may have become thinner during the economic fallout caused by the global health crisis.

Combine those factors and it’s easy to see that a study by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) found that people want to improve their kitchen, especially with germ-avoiding, touchless technology, while adhering to a tight budget.

An overwhelming 99% of manufacturing, construction, design and retail businesses surveyed by the trade association said more consumers are requesting assistance with small-scale, DIY kitchen projects.

To reduce the risk of getting Covid-19, the survey found people want contact-less products with automatic sensors and antimicrobial surfaces as well as outdoor kitchens, where they can safely entertain while social distancing.

The pandemic also made people aware of the need to prepare for an emergency and

Ideas to keep the kids entertained indoors over the weekend

It can be hard to keep children occupied while they are at home – especially at the weekend in the middle of a pandemic.

There is only so much TV they can watch, and it is good to get them away from the screens for a while.

Now, thankfully, Be has put together a list of fun activities to try with your little ones to keep them entertained.

As a result, you should be able to spend some much-needed quality time with them.

And what’s more – it won’t cost you a thing.

Bake together

Most children have a sweet tooth, so why not get out the recipe books and bake with your little ones.

Toddlers love playing in the kitchen along with older kids, and it may help them want to try new foods, too, knowing that they helped to make it.

Paint

There’s no doubt kids love anything
