Museum renovation aims to create treasure trove

HARLINGEN — For decades, the two old buildings formed the Harlingen Historical Museum, standing along the courtyard of the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum.

Five years ago, city leaders envisioned reviving its exhibits to tell the story of a town that rose from the White Horse Desert.

Now, the money’s rolling out to help preserve parts of the city’s legacy.

The Rio Grande Valley Museum Association has raised $119,900 to complete the five-year renovation of two buildings that once housed the Harlingen Air Base’s police squadron and brig.

The project includes upgrading exhibits to tell the story of the city’s evolution from a rough-and-tumble railroad stop to an agricultural center, Joel Humphries, the city’s arts and entertainment director, said yesterday.

As part of the project, the city will recognize the residents whose donations will help turn a vision into a historical treasure trove.

“The idea is to completely revamp all

10 Home Renovation Projects to Complete This Fall

Fall is here, bringing with it a new to-do list for property owners. Whether it’s a renovation project for your primary residence or an investment property you’re getting ready to rent or sell, fall is the time to get your home in tip-top shape before the colder weather arrives.

10 fall projects to get done

Here are some fixes and improvements that should be on your list.

1. Clean the gutters

Gutters are meant to drain water from the roof. When leaves and other debris clog them, it could spell trouble for a home, particularly if winter promises heavy snowfall. Make sure your gutters are cleaned in the fall and spring to avoid water seeping inside and causing damage.

2. Fertilize the lawn

A lawn needs TLC as it heads into its dormant season. Fertilize the lawn before the ground freezes (preferably by mid-October) so roots are fed throughout the

The referendum question asks whether to approve $33.5 million in bonding for a renovate-to-new building project at the elementary school.

Local taxpayers would be responsible for up to $17.5 million of the cost of the project. School building grants from the state would cover the remaining cost. The town council voted unanimously to have the question added to the ballot.

If approved by voters, construction would begin in the summer of 2021 and be completed by December 2022. Students would attend the school during construction.

District officials and parents have been seeking upgrades to the school for several years as its condition has continued to deteriorate.

Built in 1954 and originally known as Northwest Elementary School, the 65,000-square-foot

Kettering costs for police headquarters renovation rise $550K, draw questions

The “additional funds related to furniture, fixtures and equipment, as well as the actual renovation or construction,” Schwieterman told council last week. “During the construction Phase I, we encountered additional existing conditions that needed to be remedied” for the two-phase project.

ExploreEDUCATION: Deadline nears to fill longtime Kettering school board member’s seat

Kettering City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday night for the $550,000 in supplemental appropriations in an approval that came without questioning Schwieterman’s explanation. That money will come from the city’s reserve fund, officials said.

The city “made the decision to spend additional dollars to make those necessary repairs for the renovation,” Schwieterman told council. “We also had items related to furniture, fixtures and equipment – a couple of major items being the decision to go ahead and reconstruct and remodel the detective section as opposed to utilizing the pre-existing facility.”

However, resident Sterling Abernathy told council members he

Finish in sight for new Badgers pool construction, Field House exterior renovation | College sports

When overseas entry to the U.S. is possible, the pool will be drained and the moveable floor installed.

The Badgers swimming and diving teams have competed at the Natatorium but had their training facilities at the now-demolished SERF. The Soderholm Family Aquatic Center also has a diving well, a video board and seating for around 1,000, King said.

UW Athletics paid $13.5 million toward the $96 million Nicholas Recreation Center for UW students and staff, which features 30,400 square feet of fitness space, eight full-size basketball courts and five multipurpose studios. Game time at new-look Hackley Stadium: Watch time-lapse video of $1 million renovation

MUSKEGON – Shane Fairfield was 9 years old when he played his first football game at Hackley Stadium.

Several years later, the memory is still vivid for Muskegon High School’s 11th-year head coach. The stadium, however, looks a bit different.

“That was exciting because I felt like I was in the Big House (at University of Michigan). I mean, being a 9-year-old kid going through that tunnel and seeing the field and there’s no track around it and that kind of stuff, I was blown away then,” Fairfield recalled earlier this week, as he prepared his Big Reds (1-0, 1-0 OK Green Conference) for their big crosstown matchup against Mona Shores (1-0, 1-0).

At 7 tonight, the Big Reds will finally get the opportunity to play in their upgraded, century-old stadium. As fate would have it, the rival Sailors will be on the opposing sideline.

Muskegon High School has been

Margaret Josephs’ home renovation has been a long, slow process — and “the Marge” won’t let her contractor husband, Joe, forget it. With her New Jersey manse still a work in progress, The Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member has taken playful jabs at her husband at every turn.

For example: “[The house] is not even close to done, I’m still living in my closet,” she told BravoTV.com back in 2018. “When you’re sleeping with the contractor and you’re the girlfriend, you get a lot done. When you’re married to the contractor you get sh-t done.”

Lately, however, Margaret has shared some more hopeful updates about the big renovation. In August, she took to Instagram to announce that
