Palatine library renovation to begin next month

The Palatine Public Library District board has approved a construction contract for the renovation of the main library, and the work is expected to start next month.

The library board awarded the $3.7 million contract to Chicago-based F.H. Paschen, which was selected among 17 proposals ranging from $2.9 million to $4.2 million, plus additional costs for technology. The company was the low bidder when all alternates were accepted, library Executive Director Jeannie Dilger said.

F.H. Paschen’s past work includes interior renovation at the Naperville Public Library and several branches of the Chicago Public Library. The company “understands our need to provide a safe environment while we keep the building open to the public during renovation,” board President Andrea Vanderhoek said.

The library board also awarded a $183,332 moving contract to Iron Mountain. The furniture will be provided by Interiors for Business, Office Revolution, and Library Furniture International at a total

Dubai: The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has recently undergone renovations and has introduced new modular service counters to provide an extra layer of protection to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The reception area, passport processing section, passport coordinator’s office, encoding section, notarial processing section and the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) section are among the nine offices that were renovated with office modular partitions, Philippine consul-general Paul Raymund Cortes told Gulf News.

“While the Consulate strives to creatively accommodate the demand for consular services by our kababayan (compatriots) here in Dubai and the Northern Emirates during this time of pandemic, we also aim to provide them comfort and safety while they are inside the Consulate premises. We would like to welcome them to an improved Consulate,” Cortes said. “More importantly,

EU plans big building renovation project to save energy

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union is announcing a major building renovation project this week seeking to cut down energy costs and polluting emissions while providing a big boost to the construction industry.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Monday that the 27-nation bloc “must speed up” the pace of renovations if it is to meet climate change targets and said most efforts will go to schools, hospitals and social housing.

The bloc is littered with buildings that fail to contain heat in winter and cannot keep people cool in summer, creating massive energy bills that sap local budgets but also pollute cities and the atmosphere.

“Our buildings are responsible for 40% of our energy consumption,” said von der Leyen. And even though many buildings have or are being renovated, “at the current pace, it would take more than a century to bring emissions from our buildings to

‘Renovation, Inc.’: Sarah’s designs fail to make a mark on first go, will she succeed to impress Bernadette?

Sarah Baeumler is known for her impeccable aesthetics and attention to detail. In the past, we have seen the designer show off her impressive decor chops on ‘Renovation Island’, when she alongside her husband Bryan Baeumler, bought a resort in the Bahamas and renovated it. But much before the Baeumler family made the bold move of shifting their base to the Bahamas and running a resort, they were happily settled in Canada running a construction business of their own.

On HGTV’s ‘Renovation, Inc.’ we get to see how Bryan and Sarah worked together. In an earlier episode, we saw the couple take up an interesting renovation project of a house that houses a multi-generational family. The house belongs to Bernadette and her husband, Don. The couple lived along with Don’s mother- Gigi. Things quickly changed, when the couple’s daughter, Cara, moved in with them along with her husband and children.

A chic DIY bathroom renovation for less than $2,000

Need to start a bathroom renovation but don’t want to break the bank? Take a cue from blogger and interior designer Heather Cooke. Her dated ’90s master bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade, but instead of splurging on a pricey renovation, Cooke gave the space a makeover using secondhand finds, a lot of creativity, and a little bit of elbow grease.

Now, the black-and-white space has an eclectic farmhouse feel more in step with her family’s tastes. “As someone who has decorated their home 95 percent secondhand, it’s always a proud moment for us to develop spaces that are both unique and fit our design aesthetic,” Cooke says.

Cooke’s home was built in early 2000, so the bathroom had a very traditional 1990s feel. Thankfully, it wasn’t all bad. “We fell

This is the second week of the project’s painting stage. The project itself was first initiated 18 months ago, jointly by Werrington Neighbourhood Council, Councillor John Fox and local artist Nathan Murdoch.

It was launched after concerns were expressed at the rundown state of the local underpasses in Werrington. A few months ago, funding was secured from the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation to create the new murals.

The theme of the artwork is nature and was chosen after an online poll as residents expressed their desire for the new murals to reflect the thriving animal habitats that the Cuckoos Hollow nature reserve provides.

Part of FIFA-funded stadium collapses during renovation in South Sudan- The New Indian Express

By Associated Press

SOUTH SUDAN: Part of a FIFA-funded stadium in South Sudan has collapsed during renovation work.

The world body said on Friday it was in contact with the South Sudan Football Association and seeking further information on a “minor incident” this week at Juba National Stadium in the country’s capital.

“Currently, we understand that there are no casualties or injuries that occurred as a result of the incident,” FIFA said, adding it involved the “setting of concrete.”

The Juba National Stadium is South Sudan’s only international-standard stadium and is being renovated using money from the FIFA Forward Program. FIFA gave $5 million for the renovation.

Work has been halted, although it might restart in weeks, youth and sports minister Dr. Albino Bol said. The renovation began last year and it is already behind schedule.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino pledged to fund the renovation during a visit to the
