A chic DIY bathroom renovation for less than $2,000

Need to start a bathroom renovation but don’t want to break the bank? Take a cue from blogger and interior designer Heather Cooke. Her dated ’90s master bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade, but instead of splurging on a pricey renovation, Cooke gave the space a makeover using secondhand finds, a lot of creativity, and a little bit of elbow grease.

Now, the black-and-white space has an eclectic farmhouse feel more in step with her family’s tastes. “As someone who has decorated their home 95 percent secondhand, it’s always a proud moment for us to develop spaces that are both unique and fit our design aesthetic,” Cooke says.

Cooke’s home was built in early 2000, so the bathroom had a very traditional 1990s feel. Thankfully, it wasn’t all bad. “We fell

You can ski in Vermont, hike in Vermont, fish in Vermont, and kick back in a vacation home in Vermont that evokes another facet of the Green Mountain State’s identity: its farm country. Kitchen Design Ideas That Are Chic And Functional – Kitchen Decor Ideas

Photographed by Ashley Batz.

There are plenty of design trends that are gorgeous, modern, and memorable — but do they actually meet your everyday needs? In our opinion, if you’re going to renovate and redecorate, the finished result should suit you aesthetically and practically, especially when you’re talking about the heart of the home. That’s why we think the best kitchen design ideas prioritize functionality above all else.

Keep in mind: That doesn’t mean you have to put style on the back burner (no pun intended). It just means that whatever you decide to do, you should do it with consideration to your lifestyle. Do you have a big family that always ends up gathering in the kitchen? Do you like to spread out your tools and ingredients and cook in a wide-open space? Are you generally pretty clean and organized, or could you use some help in that department?

Home design inspiration: Creating a chic yet cozy escape

After adding a family room to the 1915 Tudor cottage in Wellesley that she shares with her husband and their 10-year-old daughter, Jennifer Brady reassessed the function of her home’s formal living room. Knowing they would use the addition to entertain, the principal of KidderKokx Interior Architecture and Design decided to take advantage of the living room’s small size, cozy fireplace, and tucked-away location by turning it into a lounge. The intimate setting is conducive to reading, catching up over cocktails, and family time. “The concept is based on boutique hotel lounges, where you can retreat alone or meet with friends,” Brady says. “It’s a luxurious little getaway in our house.”
