Tulsa home remodeling company hiring crew members amid pandemic

TULSA, Okla. — Unemployment in Oklahoma decreases each week, but about 80,000 people are still without a job.

2 Works for You is highlighting a company that started small 42 years ago doing siding and windows. Now, as demand grew due to the coronavirus pandemic, business is booming.

Burnett Home Improvement said they used to make a few hundred thousand dollars a year, but hit company records this summer. Last month, they made nearly $700,000. They said the increase is because people are at home, restless, with no places to vacation.

So they’ve seen people spending extra funds on remodeling their home.

Vice President Shawn Donahue has been with the company for almost two years and wants to encourage people to apply. Their faith-based company prides itself on treatment and fairness.

Burnett Home Improvement employee Vasilik Napelenok said, “Most of the people are Christian here, so I think that’s really

Girls with Power Tools remodeling company gives homes, communities a facelift

Ruth Haller was on her hands and knees, crawling as she pulled the heavy-duty construction material up from the floor of the home she is remodeling in Barrio Logan.

“As you can see, it’s not glamorous,” she said of the work.

The teacher-turned-renovator now runs a home-remodeling company called Girls with Power Tools with her friend, Pamela Macias.

The pair have been working on the South 26th Street home for more than a month. They plan to finish next week and place the 1930s Craftsman up for sale.

The work is not all for profit.

The Girls with Power Tools proprietors plan to use 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the home to purchase laptop computers for students in the neighborhood or in other parts of San Diego. They are also considering purchasing wireless internet cards for needy families.

Haller will dedicate another 10 percent to Guitars

30 years into their marriage and nearly 20 years in the same house, Alvin and Joanne were ready for a refresh — not the marriage, Alvin emphasizes.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long! We still feel like newlyweds who got married yesterday,” he says.

But the house was starting to feel a little dated, and the couple heard from a friend that Granite Transformations did really great work. As a former interior designer Joanne took the lead on most decisions, and then Alvin came up with a plan to celebrate their love at the same time.

“I said honey, I don’t think we can afford to do all this, and convinced her to postpone the fireplace and bathroom renovations. But of course in my head I thought ‘I’m going to make sure we get this done.”

Alvin worked with Granite Transformations to orchestrate a surprise, and they completed

James Kenton, the owner of Tennessee Metal Roofing, was booked into the Metro jail Saturday on a felony charge of home improvement fraud.

According to an arrest warrant, a company employee completed an estimate for a new roof on a Nashville residence in late April. The representative quoted the homeowner $11,990 for the new roof, so he paid a $1,190 deposit and signed a contract, the paperwork states.

Volatility has ruled the Street for the last few weeks, leading some to conclude that those with a more pessimistic outlook had been vindicated, but the firm believes stocks can still climb higher.According to Goldman Sachs’ head of U.S. equity strategy, David Kostin, the S&P 500 could still hit 3,600 by the end of the year, and 3,800 by mid-2021, on the back of vaccine-related optimism and progress with the economic reopening. This would reflect gains of 10% and 16%, respectively, should the index ultimately reach these targets.“Despite the sharp sell-off in the past week, we remain optimistic about the path of the U.S. equity market in coming months.
