South Florida Fair organizes first home improvement show

From impact windows to home fitness equipment, the South Florida Fair’s Home Improvement & More Show is set to offer a one-stop shopping experience for residents looking to make at-home enhancements.

With over 60 vendors in attendance, the free event is set for Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd., in West Palm Beach. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Representing an array of home improvement areas, the vendors include kitchen, bath, water filtration, patios, doors, landscape, security, remolding, hot tubs, roofing, gazebos, household items, art, jewelry, window treatment, decks, patios, screening, tree services, flooring and automotive.

Florida Coach Wanted 90,000 Fans at Home This Week, But Now His Players Have COVID

Florida Gators football coach Dan Mullen said he wanted 90,000 screaming fans at his home stadium this weekend when they host the LSU Tigers. Now, they hope to just play a game after suspending team activities because some of their players have caught coronavirus.

The school announced Tuesday that it has suspended athletic activities after five football players tested positive for COVID-19. Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin issued a statement that said the suspension of activities was out of caution.

“Out of an abundance of caution, team activities are paused as of Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Dan Mullen has been in communication with football players and their parents, and I have had conversations with the Southeastern Conference office, last week’s opponent Texas A&M, and this week’s opponent LSU,” Stricklin said.

Strucklin added that the UF sports medicine department will reassess the situation on Wednesday.

The South Florida Fair has announced it will be hosting it’s first-ever Home Improvement & More Show in the Expo Center at the end of October.

The Fair said they created the event because people are spending more time in their homes because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Given what we’ve been experiencing since March with this pandemic, there has never been such a high demand for at-home enhancements in kitchens and baths, lawn and landscape, décor and home office ideas,” said Vicki Chouris, president & CEO of the South Florida Fair & Palm Beach County Expositions.

There are more than 60 vendors slated to be at the event that include categories such as windows, kitchen, bath, patios, landscaping, and more.

A hotel renovation in Florida has turned out to be an archaeologist’s dream project after developers discovered historical artefacts. The recent renovation of Detroit Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida, which opened in 1888, has become a treasure trove of objects from the 19th century.

A report by Tampa Bay Times stated construction workers who were renovating the historic hotel building discovered an intact elevator which is at least 115 years old. The structure still has the old cage-like door and huge electric motor, as are the cables, however they had been cut.

The hotel is being renovated into a steampunk-themed restaurant and for the management, the recent discovery has made their place more authentic. As the publication reported, the Segreti’s Hospitality Group which has taken up the project decided to keep the discoveries.
