Each of the five boroughs contains a constellation of neighborhoods with their own cultural quirks and pervading personalities. In Cobble Hill, ethnically diverse mom-and-pop shops and traditional brownstones entwine with a boho art scene, yielding an old-school yet forward-thinking Brooklyn vibe. It’s here that Workshop/APD founding principal Andrew Kotchen was given the opportunity to nestle a unique piece of architecture between two 1900s town houses, at once putting into relief the district’s dual natures.

“It’s rare to get the chance to run an intelligent design process that isn’t based in historical preservation,” Kotchen says of the ground-up plan he conceived for his client, a married couple with two teenage children. After performing initial zoning

Families are rethinking how they want to live at Fox Hill near Parker

If any good at all comes from the CV-19 emergency, it’s that families are reimagining how they want to live—paying less attention to where they work and more to where they want to be. You’ll see that effect today in a fast-selling custom home community near Parker that’s orienting its lifestyle around a historic farm instead of a pool or a golf course.

Hill Int’l to manage $318.5m renovation of Cairo hospital project – Projects And Tenders

New York Stock Exchange-listed Hill International has secured a contract to provide project management services, during the design, procurement, and implementation stages of a healthcare project in Egypt’s capital city of Cairo.

The contract was awarded for the $318.5m Kasr Al-Ainy Hospitals Development project for Cairo University, and involves the renovation of all existing Kasr Al-Ainy hospital buildings and facilities, in addition to building any additional facility buildings if required.

The hospital is in downtown Cairo at the university’s Faculty of Medicine campus. The facility currently comprises 3,200 beds.

In a statement, Hill International said that the project aims at transforming the hospital into a facility organised by specialist departments, and to increase the hospital’s capacity by around 300%.

The project will allow Kasr Al-Ainy to serve more patients at a lower cost, while also improving educational and training capabilities for students and staff.

According to officials at the university,

David Bacon House: Bacon’s Hollywood Hills Castle Hill Mansion

Unsolved murders are all too commonplace in Hollywood. The vast majority have become infamous. Say “Black Dhalia,” “Thelma Todd,” or “William Desmond Taylor” to anyone and they’ll likely start spewing theories and suspects. Some, though, have managed to fly under the radar, but remain no less mysterious. Take the 1943 slaying of David Bacon, for instance, the actor best known (posthumously) for having played the titular character in Republic Pictures’ “The Masked Marvel.” Even those well-versed in Hollywood lore have most likely never heard of David (born Gaspar Griswold Bacon Jr.) or his murder. I only became aware of the case last year thanks to an “Entertainment Weekly” story titled “Who Killed the Masked Marvel?” that a friend, who shares my affinity for true crime and locations, tore out and sent to me. Scrawled next to a photo of Bacon’s former Hollywood Hills residence that ran atop the
