Ventura County residents can recycle items at these cleanup events

Free clean-up events are coming to unincorporated areas of Ventura County.

The county’s public works agency is hosting 10 collection events between April 23 and Oct. 22 for residents to recycle or dispose of unwanted items.

Residents with trash service through the county will receive a notice in the mail one month before each event with specifics about the location and times. The collection sites are designed with minimum contact. Residents can drive through and drop off their items.

Eco-tip:Fighting planned obsolescence with extended warranties, right to repair

Residents can bring from their homes or garages appliances; baby items and furniture; bicycles; electronics; expired car seats and strollers; gym equipment; indoor and outdoor furniture; mattresses; toys and unusable clothing.

Other items can also be disposed of. Home repair debris include asphalt, concrete, drywall, fencing, sinks, toilets and other fixtures, tile, windows and wood. Yard waste and green waste made up of tree trimmings and branches, as well as palm fronds and yucca and succulents, may also be dropped off.

The following items will not be accepted: air conditioning units; commercial waste, including green waste from professional landscapers; household hazardous waste; microwaves; refrigerators; or tires.

The program is offered by the county and its trash haulers Harrison Industries and Waste Management.
